| The
Busschaert strain has many lines and champion racers and
producers have come from all of those lines. Because
George conducted business in England, he met and became
very popular with the fanciers in the British Isles. The
Busschaerts are as popular in England as the Janssens are
here in the U.S., but on a much larger scale.
George Busschaert was an
amazing breeder, one of the best that I am aware of and
on par with the Janssen Brothers. I say this because of
the vast number of foundation pairs bred by him and sold
to the English fanciers who went on to become
fountainheads in their own right for this strain. As the
Busschaert bloodlines kept spreading more and more
fanciers worldwide came to know the power of this
strain. Winners and producers of winners are still being
bred down from these original base pairs today in the
year 2004.
They win from all
distances and in all conditions many times out in front.
We started with a few pair of imports from several small
lofts and had instant success with their offspring. This
set the wheels in motion to search out even better stock
and so we were on our way to England often twice a year
meeting the top Busschaert enthusiasts. We also acquired
some stock from the Busschaert Champions housed at our
dear friends, the Massarellas of Louella stud. This was
a virtual smorgasbord of current day champions.
We had stock birds in
our breeding loft that had won over 260-1sts themselves
before being retired to the stock loft at Nettis Family
Lofts. Over the years we narrowed down the bloodlines
and put our best race winners back to stock as
we have done with each of our families. These were
winners for us locally as well as birds sent to out of
area futurities that won and were brought back.
We have owned direct
children of many of the Champion Busschaerts in England,
a list of which would fill pages. We even had the
"Black Knight" here bred by the master
himself, George Busschaert from his world famous
foundation cock the "Little Black". Here is an
example of one of our current base pairs.
Male: "Blue
Turbo" - Bred by Nettis Family Loft
Sire: "Champion Turbo" winner of 13-1st
including 3-1st Fed.
Dam: "Little Terror Hen" direct daughter of
"Little Terror" and "The Tame Hen"
famous A. Beardsmore Pair.
Female: "Dark Jackie" - Bred by Nettis Family
Loft
Sire: "Black Jack" winner of 22-1sts
Dam: "Special Hen" Dam of 7 Combine winners.
"Little Terror Line"
We try to increase our
chances of success by adding current winners to the gene
pool not names from historic books. In short, we are at
a point where the quality and results are our goal not quantity
and this applies to each family we breed. We have tried
and will continue to experiment with birds from other
strains but the bottom line is if they do not out
perform our current birds then they are disposed of. You
have to be open to progress, as the saying goes. IF YOU
REST... YOU RUST! |
